More Pink Floyd Related Record Store Day Releases Added Ahead Of Releases Postponed Until June Due To Covid-19 Virus

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 14/03/2020 by Col T14/03/2020

A Statement Released Today Reads –

” Record Store Day is a worldwide event involving thousands of people and small businesses—In discussions over the last few weeks, as information came and changed daily, and then hourly, we’ve taken all of them into consideration as we go over various options: Stay the course. Move the date. Change the structure of the event.  No one knows what things will look like in any given place in the next five weeks, and decisions for that time period need to be made now, using current facts.

There is no perfect solution. There is no easy answer. We’ve decided that the best of all possible moves is to change the date of Record Store Day this year to Saturday, June 20.

We think this gives stores around the world the best chance to have a profitable, successful Record Store Day, while taking into consideration the recommendations of doctors, scientists, the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, and the need to be good citizens of both local and worldwide communities.

We’re working with all of our partners and our stores to make this change as smooth as possible for everyone who participates in Record Store Day: customers, record stores, artists, labels and more.  Record Store Day is everywhere and we want to hold our party when everyone can gather around safely to celebrate life, art, music and the culture of the indie record store.

(And hey! Anything with the April 18, 2020 on it just became that much more special!) “

To celebrate Record Store Day 2020 (Saturday 20th June), Pink Floyd will release a live recording of the band’s first single, and original singer and songwriter Syd Barrett’s best-known song, ‘Arnold Layne’.

The limited-edition, one-sided Record Store Day 7″ vinyl represents the last live performance of Pink Floydwith David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright all together in 2007.

This special performance of Arnold Laynetook place at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert at The Barbican on 10 May 2007, with Pink Floyd members augmented by Jon Carin (Keyboards, vocals) and Andy Bell from Oasis on bass guitar.

After a star-studded line-up throughout the evening, Pink Floyd took to the stage for an incredibly emotional finale.

The B-side of the single, features an exclusive etching of handcuffs to echo the sleeve and the song’s lyrics, more details at the link

Roger Waters is releasing a special edition clear vinyl of his famous The Wall Live in Berlin 1990 concert, recorded in the former no-man’s land between the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz in Germany. The concert took place a few months after the fall of the Berlin Wall and had an attendance in excess of 500,000.

The concert had a star studded line up, with performances by Van Morrison, Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, Sinéad O’Connor and many more.

The concert is also famous for the many technical issues that occurred in the first set, with multiple power outages leading to songs being abandoned and needing to be re-recorded at a later date.

There are only 8,000 copies of the double vinyl being made, more details at the link.

The next release is only tangentially related to Pink Floyd, but could still prove to be an interesting one.

The Soundtrack for the 1995 techno-thriller Hackers is getting a double vinyl release featuring tracks not included on the original soundtrack CD.

Two of those tracks are performed by Guy Pratt, with one track featuring David Gilmour. The track in question “Grand Central Station,” features a guitar solo that was long rumoured to be the work of David, but never saw a release outside of cinemas.

2,500 copies of the double vinyl are being made, more details at the link.

The last release is a special one indeed featuring Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets on a 12″ Single featuring a live rendition of  See Emily Play with Vegetable Man as the B side.

Nick Mason has been on the road reinterpreting a couple of early Pink Floyd songs.

The Record Store Day single will be released to coincide with the Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Live at The Roundhouse album which is released 17th April.

From the dynamic drummer heard on every Pink Floyd album, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets offers the opportunity to experience the group’s early body of work in concert, including songs from The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets.

Alongside guitarists Gary Kemp (of Spandau Ballet), keyboardists Dom Beken and Lee Harris (of Ian Dury and The Blockheads), and longtime Pink Floyd touring bassist Guy Pratt, Mason drew rapturous crowds throughout North America and Europe in 2018 and 2019 -including dates at The Roundhouse in London, the historic venue that counted Pink Floyd as its first performance in 1966.

Ahead of a dazzling audiovisual release of material from the Roundhouse sets last May, this collectable 12″ single features two performances from those sets (including Pink Floyd outtake “Vegetable Man,” played for the first time ever on this tour) backed by a custom etching, more details at the link

Pink Floyd and Nick Mason releases confirmed for Record Store Day 2020

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 04/03/2020 by Col T04/03/2020

In celebration of Record Store Day 2020 (April 18th) Pink Floyd and Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets have some new releases lined up.

Pink Floyd will have a one-sided 7″ vinyl single of Arnold Layne, recorded live at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert in 2007. This was the last live performance of Pink Floyd to feature David, Nick and Rick (along with Jon Carin and Andy Bell).

The 2007 ‘Madcap’s Last Laugh‘ Tribute Concert was held a year after Syd’s passing, featuring a number of artists performing Syd’s songs.

Similar to The Later Years 1987-2019, the B-side will feature an etching matching the new art work on the sleeve. The new art work takes inspiration from the lyrics, featuring a man in handcuffs, and was created by StormStudios.

Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secret’s will have a 12″ vinyl of See Emily Play and Vegetable Man. Similar to the Pink Floyd Records release, the Legacy vinyl will have an etching on the B-side.

As with every year, there will be limited numbers of both vinyls, so make sure you pre-order or line up early at your favourite participating record store!

For more details, including participating stores, head over to the official Record Store Day website.
