Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets - Bike - Stupinigi Sonic Park 26/06/22

The summer of great events for Turin and Piedmont has restarted, with concerts in the stadiums, first Cesare Cremonini, then Vasco Rossi, who will take the stage of the Grande Torino stadium on June 30th and tonight it was the opening of Stupinigi Sonic Park 2022.

After last summer’s limited edition, the fourth edition began with a truly prestigious event in the prestigious Parco della Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi in Nichelino. Reverse Agency, with the production of Fabio and Alessio Boasi, in collaboration with the best Italian agencies, has put together a truly interesting bill that varies in the musical offer for a festival, finally without limitations and in freedom.

It was the turn of Nick Mason, historic drummer of Pink Floyd, with his project Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, flanked by Gary Kemp (that of Spandau), Lee Harris, keyboardist Dom Beken and bassist Guy Pratt, who played with Pink Floyd and with David Gilmour.

Mason has the merit of recovering songs often ignored by his historical associates, Roger Waters and David Gilmour in their great concerts, with the ability to interpret them with simplicity and lightness. Overall, it is class and craft that make up for the lack of “youth” to bring the repertoire of the first Pink Floyd to the stage, characterized by the creations of that genius and recklessness that was Syd Barret, to whom he dedicates a memory during the show. A great production capable of adapting such a particular show to a location like that of the hunting lodge of Stupinigi.

Among the songs of the first historical Pink Floyd albums, a more unique than rare opportunity to immerse yourself in those psychedelic atmospheres, enhanced by the hypnotic colors projected by the huge ledwall and by the musical and vocal vein of Kemp and Pratt, on pieces that have now become legends such as “Atom Heart Mother”, “Astronomy Domine”, “Vegetable Man”, “If”, “Burning Bridges”, “Echoes”, “A Saucerful of Secrets”, just to name a few. Nick, skilled orchestra conductor but who has not lost the habit of pounding on drums, shows us once again that rock and psychedelic still live, fifty years later and tonight with a kind of time machine we could relive them fully.

Elisa and then Zucchero soon arrive at Sonic Park in Stupinigi, the place is always magnificent, the evening is cool.
