Pink Floyd : Mono remaster of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn to be released for Record Store Day

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 07/03/2018 by Col T11/09/2018

To celebrate Record Store Day 2018 (Saturday 21st April)

Pink Floyd will release the band’s debut album ‘The Piper At The Gates of Dawn’ on vinyl, with a new mono 2018 remaster by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman.

Remastered from the original 1967 mono mix, the release is the latest from Pink Floyd Records, which has recently marked global sales of over 1 million vinyl LPs since its launch in June 2016.

The limited-edition Record Store Day release is delivered on premium 12” 180-gram black vinyl, and comes paired with an exclusive poster (540 x 388mm on art paper), as well as a foil blocked outer wallet.

Written and performed by Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only studio album to be released under Barrett’s leadership.

The album, recorded with producer Norman Smith at Abbey Road Studios, features songs that remained on the band’s live setlist for many years, such as ‘Astronomy Domine’ and ‘Interstellar Overdrive’.

The album’s original cover artwork, shot by photographer Vic Singh, was captured through a prism lens that Beatles guitarist George Harrison gave him. This same lens is now on display as part of The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains, currently at Rome’s MACRO museum.

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is released via Record Store Day at Participating Stores ONLY (Not Available Online !!) on 21st April.

Pink Floyd : Goldmine Magazines’s March 2018 Issue Centers On Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 15/02/2018 by Col T15/02/2018

Goldmine’s March 2018 issue is out now!

The March issue examines how Pink Floyd survived the shift from Syd Barrett to David Gilmour — and thrived!

Gillian G. Garr takes the reader through the story of Syd Barrett — from Pink Floyd’s signature spark and enigmatic creative leader to a rumored recluse who became lifted to cult status.

Goldmine is then proud to present a book excerpt from author Bill Kopp’s new book, Reinventing Pink Floyd: From Syd Barrett to The Dark Side of The Moon. The chapter discusses how members of Pink Floyd continued to be involved in Syd Barrett’s short-lived solo career.

Kopp also gives Goldmine a Top 10 of Syd Barrett’s songs. A Pink Floyd fan might be surprised at some of the choices.

And finally, Goldmine reaches into the vault and pulls out our experiment of how to sync The Dark Side of The Moon to The Wizard of Oz. Laugh if you will at it being an old urban legend but the results are somewhat uncanny.
