PINK FLOYD

STAGE SET DESIGNS.

Hi there! My name is Paul Wightman and I work as an Architectural Technician with a vast range of experience in detailing buildings / structures and Architectural Design. I'm looking to use my creative skills and expand into Stage set / TV set design.

I have created these designs on this web page in the hope that somebody may be able to offer some assistance / technical help on how these designs could be put into practice. At the moment I do not have any experience regarding mobile lights and how they work so any advice would be most helpful. These are just a few of the designs I have created to date.

In order to get them on the web it has been necessary to reduce them in size. They can be modelled and lighting effects added but this will take up considerable space on Col's web site, to whom I am very grateful to for hosting them.

If anybody would like to see my designs in more detail, and enable you to zoom into the images without losing clarity, then a CD Rom is available by dropping me an email at paul@p.wightman.freeserve.co.uk

These designs are based on Floyd as they happen to be my favourite band but if there is anyone else out there who is interested in offering me part time or full time work regarding set design, or any other up and coming bands who would like me to come up with some ideas for them then please contact me.

Thanks

Paul

DESIGN 1

This design incorporates a series of rotating arcs, which are fixed down to a spinning outer ring, which in turn is fitted with pivotal lights around the full perimeter. The arcs can be attached at the top to a central rotating tubular column with a series of lights or separate mobile lighting rigs which can move on tracks up and down the length of the rotating arcs. If desired the arcs can be of differing heights so that a mobile lighting rig can travel from one side of the arc at stage level, right across the top of the band and down to stage level on the opposite side. Each band member can be positioned on his or her own telescopic platforms or one large telescopic platform could be used with stepped areas for each band member. The whole stage area is then protected by a large canopy structure similar to the last Tour of 94 complete with lights and lasers and covering the sound pa speaker systems also.

DESIGN 2

THIS DESIGN IS BASED ON THE DARK SIDE ALBUM COVER

This design is similar to Design 1 but incorporates a large rotating translucent pyramid, which is fixed down to a spinning outer ring, which in turn is fitted with pivotal lights around the full perimeter. The pyramid can be fitted with a series of lights and laser effects. Each band member can be positioned on his or her own telescopic platforms or one large telescopic platform could be used with stepped areas for each band member. DESIGN 3

THIS DESIGN REFLECTS SOME OF THE SHAPES AND IDEAS ON THE DIVISION BELL ALBUM COVER

This design incorporates a series of translucent curved arches of varying size and heights. The reason for translucent canopies is to enable lights from one mobile lighting rig to shine through onto the adjoining telescopic platforms, thus providing added depth and greater atmospheric effect to the whole lighting concept. A series of separate mobile lighting rigs which can move on tracks up and down the length of the arches. Each band member can be positioned on his or her own telescopic platforms The whole stage area is then protected by a large canopy structure similar to the last Tour of 94 complete with lights and lasers and covering the sound pa speaker systems also.
