David Gilmour on Later…with Jools Holland This Coming Saturday November 2nd

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 29/10/2024 by Tony R03/11/2024

David Gilmour and his ‘Luck and Strange’ band will be featured on Later… with Jools Holland. The Webb Sisters (who sing BV’s with David) have previously shared some ‘behind the scenes’ video on social media during the time David and band, with Romany Gilmour, filmed their segment for Jools’ new series, which took place before the six-night run of shows at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this month. We were unsure as to when the actual episode would air. The air date has now been confirmed for this Saturday, November 2nd, at 10:25 PM on BBC Two. Afterwards, the entire episode will be available on the BBC iPlayer to re-watch. The episode description reveals:

Later… with Jools Holland returns for a brand new series, filmed at Alexandra Palace Theatre in North London, with a rich mix of live music and chat. In this third episode, Jools welcomes legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist David Gilmour to perform a couple of songs from his latest number one album Luck & Strange, including Between Two Points, which features vocals from his daughter Romany Gilmour.

Returning from Melbourne, Australia are punk rockers Amyl & the Sniffers, led by frontwoman Amy Taylor who brings an infections energy and sharp wit to the floor. They give a high-voltage performance of a couple of tracks from their latest album, Cartoon Darkness.

Over 30 years since they last performed on the show, 80s icons The The return, led by original and constant member Matt Johnson. They perform a new song inspired by the grave of 18th century poet William Blake, which is taken from their first album in 24 years, Ensoulment. Jools also chats to Matt Johnson about his career and a certain piano solo Jools performed on the classic The The song, Uncertain Smile.

Completing the line-up and both making their debut on the show are two artists of contrasting musical styles. The first is singer-songwriter Dhruv who was born in London, raised in Singapore and is of Indian heritage. Dhruv performs his track Tragedy from his debut album Private Blizzard. The second debutante is South African hip-hop tour de force Moonchild Sanelly, who has collaborated with the likes of Gorillaz, Ghetts and Self Esteem and steps forward with her new song Do My Dance from her upcoming album, Full Moon.

The first two episodes of this series are available on BBC iPlayer and feature performances from Blossoms, Cymande, Gurriers, JADE, Jerron Paxton, Laura Marling, Nubya Garcia, Roger Taylor, Manic Street Preachers, MØ, and Nia Smith.

Update: Watch “The Piper’s Call” and “Between Two Points” via the BBC Music YouTube channel:
