David Gilmour Receives O2 Silver Clef Award
Back in February, it was announced that David Gilmour would be the recipient of this year’s O2 Silver Clef Award for his contributions to music. The event took place on Wednesday, July 2nd, and the charity raised £715,000 (and counting) for Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity.
David accepted the accolade at the ceremony from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. During his speech, David praised “the wonderful Nordoff and Robbins music therapy charity” that the awards support every year.
He added: “My relationship with them goes back 50 years – thank you to them for this award and for the miraculous work they do, and have done since then.”
This star-studded gathering has celebrated the genius of legendary musicians since 1976, while raising millions of pounds for vital music therapy services—helping support some of the most isolated and vulnerable adults and children across the UK through the power of music.
David’s social media pages posted a video today showing David and his wife, Polly, arriving together looking spiffy, speaking to reporters on the blue carpet, and featuring shots of David accepting his award and delivering his speech.
Congratulations on a well deserved award, David—and for a very good cause!
