Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 18/06/2024 by Tony R18/06/2024

Following up from this morning’s news story – Between Two Points by David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour, is the stunning new single from David Gilmour’s forthcoming album, ‘Luck and Strange’, which is to be released on 6th September on Sony Music. The single is available to stream now https://davidgilmour.lnk.to/BetweenTwoPoints and the music video can be viewed below via David’s YouTube channel.

David Gilmour - Between Two Points (with Romany Gilmour)

‘Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman. The album features nine tracks, including a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ 1999 song, ‘Between Two Points’ which features 22-year-old Romany Gilmour on vocals and harp.

The video for ‘Between Two Points’ was shot on location in London and Manchester, with David on guitars and featuring Romany Gilmour on vocals and harp. Gavin Elder who directed the clip said: “Romany performs this song with an extraordinary level of fragility, vulnerability and understated control. There’s a subtle, yet deep emotional rapport between David and Romany, captured with hand held cameras, enhancing the tension within the video.”

David Gilmour’s Latest Single ‘Between Two Points (with Romany Gilmour)’ Out Now

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 17/06/2024 by Tony R20/06/2024

The latest single from David Gilmour’s upcoming solo album Luck and Strange, titled Between Two Points, is now available on all digital platforms. This cover of The Montgolfier Brothers’ late 90s song showcases beautiful lead vocals by David’s daughter Romany and concludes with some truly moving guitar work.

Between Two Points (with Romany Gilmour)

David says, “I’ve had that song on my playlist since it was released. More recently I mentioned it to one or two people: I assumed that it had been a hit, but no one knew it. I asked Romany to give it a go”.

During the live streams that Gilmour and family, as the Von Trappeds, performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, Romany had sung and played the harp, and David found that their voices mixed in a way that only a family member could. Around that time, David and Romany collaborated on the song ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’, which appears on the CD & Blu-Ray versions of ‘Luck and Strange’. “I realized that Romany has exactly the right sort of vulnerability and youth for the song. In fact, she was halfway through an essay with a train to catch when we asked her: “OK, I’ll sing it once, put the mic on” and that, says David, is 90 percent of the finished vocal.

Mark Tranmer of The Montgolfier Brothers is greatly enamoured with this new version. “David and Romany’s version of our song is a great arrangement and production. Like all the best covers, it diverges from the original but keeps the spirit. Romany’s vocal phrasing of Roger Quigley’s words and the harp playing are both truly beautiful. David Gilmour’s distinctive guitar adds a whole new dimension. I still find it incredible that David and Polly chose to cover our song from all the songs out there.”

Following the release of the track, fans can also watch the explainer video on David’s social media channels.

Director John Edginton Pays Tribute to Pink Floyd Engineer Brian Humphries

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 05/06/2024 by Tony R05/06/2024

Acclaimed director John Edginton, with whom we conversed last year, has shared a heartfelt homage to Pink Floyd engineer Brian Humphries, who recently passed away. The tribute features excerpts from John’s documentary “The Story Of Wish You Were Here,” showcasing Brian at Abbey Road analyzing various multi-tracks and sharing his insights on songs such as Have A Cigar and Shine On You Crazy Diamond. This touching tribute can be viewed below.

Pink Floyd's sound engineer Brian Humphries revisits "Wish You Were Here" tapes at Abbey Road. RIP

A tribute to Brian Humphries with clips from my film “Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here”. Pink Floyd recently reported the death of sound engineer Brian Humphries. He was a lovely guy who made a trip back to Abbey Road for the documentary. I put together this tribute to him.

Pink Floyd said of him “Brian worked with bands like Free and Traffic, before leaving Island Records to work exclusively for Pink Floyd. As part of his remit, he oversaw Britannia Row Studios in the late 1970s. He first worked with the band on the Ummagumma, Zabriskie Point and More recordings of 1969, and engineered the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums. In 1974 he became the band’s front-of-house sound mixer on their tour late that year, a role he continued in 1975, and in 1977, when he was also the tape effects technician.”

RIP Brian Humphries

Pink Floyd - A Fleeting Glimpse Posted on 31/05/2024 by Tony R31/05/2024

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Brian Humphries, the Pink Floyd engineer who passed away on Wednesday night. Brian had an impressive career, having worked with renowned bands like Free and Traffic before dedicating his talents exclusively to Pink Floyd. Having first worked with the band on Ummagumma, Zabriskie Point and More in 1969, he went on to engineer the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums and played a crucial role in overseeing Britannia Row Studios in the late 1970s. Additionally, Brian served as the band’s front-of-house sound mixer during their tours in 1974, 1975, and 1977, where he also excelled as a tape effects technician. He will be deeply missed.

In the most recent installment of the Fingal’s Cave Podcast, Ron Fleischer, a dedicated contributor and friend of A Fleeting Glimpse, recounts his remarkable experience of attending Pink Floyd concerts for nearly five decades. From witnessing Pink Floyd in 1977 and 1987 to Roger Waters’ KAOS show that same year up to the most recent Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets tour. This is a must-watch for all Pink Floyd enthusiasts. Tune in below!

Ep.18 - Vinyl memories, concert experiences and long-term friendships: Ron Fleischer’s 45 year...

“In the end it’s all about Friendship!”

In this episode, we look back on almost 50 years of an intimate experience with Pink Floyd and its solo members.

Ron Fleischer may not be known to everyone by name, but all dedicated Pink Floyd fans have at least one of his outputs, released under the name HARVESTED, at home. But in this episode we don’t want to talk about the HARVESTED label, but rather take you on a journey through almost 50 Pink Floyd related concerts that began in Miami in 1977 and is still ongoing…

Ron tells us about these shows with many exciting anecdotes and above all gives us a story about friendship and passion that connects us Pink Floyd fans. Ron Fleischer is not only an important part of the Pink Floyd community but has made many things accessible to the fans thanks to his projects, so this episode in which he tells his story, is a very special one for us.
