Today marks the 80th birthday of David Gilmour. We welcome you to join us in wishing David a very happy birthday. You can do so on all our major platforms: Facebook | Instagram | Threads | YouTube

Another milestone we are celebrating today is the release of On An Island, David’s third solo album, which came out 20 years ago on his 60th birthday. The album debuted at #1 on the UK charts, giving David his first solo chart-topping album. It also reached #1 on the European Chart and peaked at #2 in Canada, Portugal, and Iceland. In the US, it reached #6 on the Billboard 200, marking his first top 10 solo album there.

Just revealed, David’s YouTube channel has released an upgraded version of the performance of “On An Island,” the title track (with more tracks to follow in the coming days, be sure to check back here!), recorded at Sony Studios in New York as part of the AOL Session in April 2006. The session marked the release of the On An Island album and features Richard Wright, which you can re-visit now in all it’s 4K glory:

And of course, a very happy 80th birthday to our guitar hero. We hope you have a marvelous day, David!
