World Premiere: David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome + Q&A in London
Ahead of its wide release next week (September 17), the world premiere of David Gilmour’s new concert film Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome took place last night at the BFI IMAX in London. In attendance were David and his family, the band, and director Gavin Elder. Also spotted were Gary Kemp and Gala Wright. David took part in a 30-minute Q&A following the screening of the film.
We have had several reports come in, including one from a member of our forum, which you can see below. Please note that it contains *minor* spoilers from the film and the Q&A, so proceed with caution if you’d prefer to avoid them. We’ll continue to update you as more information becomes available.
“Just on the way home from the Premiere at BFI Southbank IMAX.
No spoilers but some observations.
The sound is fantastic and if this had been released as the CD rather than an ‘Around the World’ no one would be disappointed.
Film doesn’t quite hit amazing for me. It’s an excellent effort and most people will leave the cinema feeling happy that they saw it, but there’s segments where 1 of the 2 editors seems a bit too obsessed with a new camera angle every 3 seconds which was quite disorientating, but this may be because of the size of the screen.
The venue, as expected by many, doesn’t seem to add anything to the film but we have been lucky to have RAH, Gdansk and Pompeii which set high benchmarks that Circus Maximus couldn’t compete with.
Italian audiences are still very annoying on film!
Half hour Q&A with DG afterwards which I don’t believe will be shared, at least not for a while but look away now if you don’t want to see a couple of observations from that…..
He’s keen to do a new album/tour, but it will take the form last year’s ‘tour’. He’s not coming to you, you have to come to him.
Absolutely no chance of the Sphere. He dilly-dallied around the answer but said it would be a perfect venue to watch himself as an hologram. Marc Brickman was more direct and said he would never work in the venue.”
