The Dark Side Of The Moon – 50th Anniversary Break Out Sets

Announced today are the release of the stand alone editions of The Dark Side Of The Moon 50th Anniversary. The CD, LP and Bluray were previously made available in March as part of the 50th Anniversary box set. They are set to release on October 13th.

This will be the first time that the new remaster of the classic album will be available on its own. The Blu-ray contains the Dolby Atmos and a 5.1 Surround mix as well as the remastered Stereo version. The package comes with commemorative postcards, stickers and a 24-page booklet.

She Took A Long Cool Look – Syd Barrett Official Lyrics Video

The Syd Barrett Official YouTube channel has posted a new lyric video from animator Artist on the Border commemorating 10,000 followers on the Official Syd Barrett Instagram “She Took A Long Cool Look” takes it new name from the creation of the official lyric book. David Gilmour felt that ‘ She took a long cool look’ was more accurate and that is the version they are using. David does state in the book that some of the lyrics are impossible to decipher properly so there may be argument over this.

“She took a long cool look” was recorded on the morning of Saturday 26th of July 1969 at Abbey Road Studio 2. This day was the final recording session for “The Madcap Laughs”. David Gilmour produced the session together with Roger Waters. This was Waters’ first time producing Syds solo sessions. The session saw Syd attempt five takes at the song, ending with the fifth being the best version. The longer take 4 was included as a bonus track on the 1993 CD reissue of “The Madcap Laughs”. The song was also included on the 2010 compilation “An introduction to Syd Barrett”. A new mix was made for this release, supervised by David Gilmour.

The Artist On The Border told us that the visual idea for this video was greatly inspired by the works of Vic Singh, who photographed the front cover image for Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. Singh photographed the iconic image through a prism lense given to him by George Harrison and the aesthetic was intended to evoke a trippy feeling. This video utilizes a similar technique where various images of Syd Barrett and a superimposed woman’s eye is filmed in slow-motion through several glass prisms.

David Gilmour & The Orb - Metallic Spheres In Colour

The 2010 album Metallic Spheres by The Orb and David Gilmour has been reimagined and remixed as Metallic Spheres In Colour and will be released on 29th September, on LP, CD, and digital including Dolby Atmos and 360RA. 

Of this new reimagining producer Youth says “The idea for Metallic Spheres In Colour, was that Alex Paterson (founder of The Orb) could have done more on the first version, and he didn’t really have the opportunity because we had a philosophy of making the music like the Blade Runner soundtrack meets Wish You Were Here. So, I asked him why don’t we remix it and make it like an Orb classic? And in doing that, it’s almost like a completely different album.”

The original Metallic Spheres album initially released in 2010 was created almost by accident. In late Spring 2009 David Gilmour entered the studio to record the Graham Nash track Chicago/Change The World, originally by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, with all proceeds going to the campaign for the British hacker Gary McKinnon, who was facing extradition to the USA (later overturned and he faced no prosecution in the UK). The song also featured vocals from Chrissie Hynde, Bob Geldof and Gary himself and the campaign was also supported by Peter Gabriel, Sting and the actress Julie Christie. Ambient pioneers The Orb and producer Youth also lent their support to the campaign by remixing the track and they asked if David Gilmour would contribute further guitar parts at Youth’s studio, The Dreaming Cave, in Wandsworth. Youth and Orb leader Alex Paterson turned this session into two ambient suites, the 28 minute ‘Metallic’ and the 20-minute ‘Spheres’ and released under the name Metallic Spheres, again with all proceeds going to Gary’s campaign. The album was one of the first major releases to be issued in a version of surround sound called 3D60 Audio and remains a favorite among headphone aficionados. Pre-order now Amazon USA  CD | VINYL | MP3  Amazon UK CD | VINYL
