![]() Roger's two new songs now ready for free streaming HERE Roger Waters On Tour brought you the news that two new Roger Waters songs were to be made available for download from the net. The songs, called 'To Kill The Child' and 'Leaving Beirut' are available for streaming from http://www.roger-waters.com/ and available in MP3 format (for a fee) from iTunes, Sony Connect and other legal download sites. ![]() Well Roger's new songs are now out there, and judging by the thousands of hits we have been getting on this page, it's evident that many of you have already downloaded the songs by connecting from this site. And what a furore the songs have created. A lot of the reaction we have seen has been really negative, and a lot of folk just don't like the songs. There again, we have seen a few good reviews, and some people are of the opinion that these are the best things that Roger has ever done! So, opinion is sharply divided, and the chat boards are alive with fans discussing the pros & cons (sorry!) of the new songs. So, we decided to conduct a poll to see what Roger's fans really thought of the songs. The poll was conducted over a 7 day period and voters had the option of rating each song on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest. The results appear below and have been sent to Roger.
On 7 August 2004, Roger confirmed that Sony had the tracks, and the date of release was in their hands. There was a great deal of speculation that Roger might be donating the tracks to appear on a CD being compiled by filmmaker Michael Moore. (It is assumed that this CD is going to be a compilation album, by different artists, to accompany the movie Fahrenheit 9/11). The Times (UK) on 10
August reported as follows. Roger Waters, the former bass player with rock band Pink Floyd, is protesting against President Bush and the war in Iraq by contributing two songs to an album being compiled by Michael Moore, the film-maker. The songs attack America's Religious Right and allude to "bigots and bully boys" in the US Administration. On 13 August Roger's Manager, (Mark Fenwick) contacted Roger Waters On Tour to advise us that no final decision had yet been taken. During that period, this
site conducted a poll over 8 days, and asked: 2/ Will you be downloading the new songs? 4570 said you would with 267 saying they won't and 266 not sure. (90% - 5% - 5%) Those results were passed on to Roger. On 23 Aug, Mark Fenwick confirmed that the tracks will NOT be on Michael Moore's compilation CD but will be available for download on 3 Sept from http://www.roger-waters.com/ and 7th September from iTunes and Sony Connect . |
